(Little Lions)

“In our Simbas room we provide a fun and stimulating learning experience that incorporates the fundamental aspects of a school environment and concentrates on preparing children aged for children aged 3 – rising 4 years for our pre-school room”.

Simbas (Little Lions)

We offer children with the opportunity to play with a variety of accessible toys containing a variety of Natural, Wooden and Plastic toys that promote all areas of their development from, 3D modelling and role play to developing their writing skills and problem solving. Typical activities covered within this age group include, baking, problem solving, threading and self-registration.

We have a creative area where the children are able to get messy and investigate with paint, glue, gloop, sand, shredded paper, pasta, rice, jelly and water, along with developing their mark making skills with use of the easel and drawing table. Children in this age group have thoroughly enjoyed combining different textures to explore the cause and effect along with practicing their mark making skills and developing the control to form recognisable letters.

We also have a separate home corner whereby the children can imitate adults from home carrying out general duties such as cooking, cleaning, ironing and washing and this is changed according to their interests for example, a doctor’s surgery, a shop etc.

Along with this, we provide the children with a quiet area where they are able to have a rest period, look at books, focus on letter and number recognition, jolly phonics and participate in circle times which provide the opportunity to recall and review the learning experiences carried out with in the day or “show and tell” something to their peers that they are particularly proud of, boosting their self esteem and self worth.

Furthermore, the children are given daily access to the nursery I Pad where they can experience a range of educational games such as art, puzzles, matching, sequencing, adding and subtracting and early literacy skills.

In addition to this, we offer the children with a choice of outdoor play where they are able to explore in our mud kitchen to make mud pies; role play in our builders yard; hunt for mini beasts in our investigation area and explore sound using our homemade music wall.

Along with this, we have space for cars, bikes, scooters and trucks; climbing and balancing on our large climbing frame, ball games and our very own fruit and vegetable growing patch.

We also take the children out of the nursery to the local pond; nature reserve and park where they are able to explore and investigate the environment as well as taking risks with the larger apparatus. Along with this, we also take the children to the local fire station, police station and the local shop to buy food for a cooking activity and seeds and bulbs for a growing activity where we discuss money and quantity and the importance of road safety.
